Searches can be run by party name, case number, or attorney name and bar number. To narrow results to Huntington County specifically, users can select “Huntington County” from the court dropdown menu and filter by case type — such as Criminal & Citation or Civil — under the “Limit search to” option. Many documents are available online at no charge through this portal.

Are Court Records Public in Huntington County?

Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act (APRA), codified at I.C. § 5-14-3 through 5-14-3-10, establishes that records created or maintained by public agencies — including courts — are presumed open to public inspection and copying. This presumption of access applies to Huntington County court records.

However, several categories of records are either restricted or fully excluded from public access under Indiana law. The Indiana Rules on Access to Court Records, Rule 5 defines which court records are excluded from public disclosure. Exemptions under I.C. § 5-14-3-4 further limit access to certain agency-held records. Records that are withheld or restricted include:

  • Juvenile delinquency and child welfare records
  • Sealed court records (excluded by judicial order)
  • Records of ongoing criminal investigations
  • Records revealing private financial data
  • Personal information of victims of human trafficking or sexual assault
  • Records made confidential by specific state or federal statute
  • Adoption records

Public records may be inspected free of charge. Copies are subject to the Clerk’s standard fees ($1.00 per page, $3.00 per certification). Requesters who are denied access to records may seek review through the Indiana Public Access Counselor under the APRA framework.
